Stories of Energy Transition Pioneers

Humanising Energy

The Humanising Energy film tells the story of how people and companies have innovated and adapted over decades to drive the energy transition forward. Their experiences and insights highlight the clean and green technologies shaping today’s sustainable future.

Featuring our CEO, Richard Berkling, Senior Vice President Engineering, Lisa Kylhammar, and Mechatronics Engineer, Bengt Vänerhall, the film showcases the people at the forefront of this transformation.

The film is produced for PowerCell by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions as a part of the Humanising Energy series presented by the World Energy Council.

Behind the scenes

As part of the release, we also take a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, exploring different perspectives on the energy transition and what it means to those dedicated to building a more sustainable society.

“The fuel cell resembles what we know today with the fossil fuel and combustion engine.” Fuel cells can electrify energy without the need to make drastic changes to the operational behaviour, as our CEO Richard Berkling discusses in our latest behind the scenes clip from “Humanising Energy”. They do this with zero emissions other than water vapour from the exhaust of the car, aeroplane, ship, power generator, etc.

In this sneak peek into the production of “Humanising Energy”, our SVP Engineering Lisa Kylhammar discusses how she wants viewers to feel after seeing the film. As Lisa reflects on her career, you can see her passion for fuel cells and sustainability shine through, a passion shared by her team.

In this behind-the-scenes clip, our SVP Chief Marketing Officer, Alison Arnold, discusses the importance of communicating effectively about this innovative technology. Many people do not necessarily realise that fuel cells are accessible and in use today in a wide range of industries. They can take on the heavy lifting of decarbonisation, replacing diesel generators, meeting new energy needs, to start phasing out fossil fuels.

“The technology is just an enabler, what is required is the human side of things”, says Richard Berkling in a look behind the curtain of the “Humanising Energy” film. This is a powerful message and one that has long been at the centre of our culture at PowerCell. It is the passion and ingenuity of our people that has turned fuel cells from a concept to a commercialised product today.

Take another look behind the scenes of the “Humanising Energy” film and get a peek inside the PowerCell factory. This is where the magic happens, where we have developed fuel cells for over 25 years. This is where we place trust in our people, and allow them to be curious, which we hope continues to lead to brilliant solutions, opportunities and possibilities.
